The Esperanza Peace and Justice Center is pleased to announce its 31st annual Mercado de Paz/Peace Market! The 2020 Mercado will provide a virtual alternative to corporate shopping by hosting our favorite local and international artisans and merchants, who consistently offer a variety of artful, beautifully handmade items centered around themes of peace, social justice, cultural diversity and ecological concerns. This year’s virtual Peace Market will have a soft opening on Monday, November 23, providing our customers the opportunity to contact their favorite vendors and offer them support and sales during these tough economic times. Artisans are bearing the brunt of order cancellations and business disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Esperanza’s 2020 virtual Mercado will afford our customers the opportunity to support vendors they already know and love. As the month-long event continues, we will debut an online store and virtual programming.
In 2020 the International Peace Market / Mercado de Paz celebrates 31 years of combining the arts with economic empowerment, international and cultural exchange, and social consciousness. We will continue to offer quality handmade goods and artisanal goods from international and local vendors. The only difference will be that instead of a physical space of an open-air market, we will be meeting our global and local community in an open-air cyber-mercado that continues to offer handcrafted artesanía from diverse cultures in San Antonio and around the globe. In addition, the 2020 virtual Mercado will feature demonstrations, pláticas, música and connections to your favorite international and local vendors via social media sites, YouTube presentations and yes, even by phone.
Be sure to save the date on the 31st annual Mercado de Paz and check the Esperanza website [www.esperanzacenter.org] for the full opening of the 2020 virtual Peace Market and scheduled virtual events.
