The eighth annual toy drive benefiting refugee children resettling in San Antonio from conflict areas around the world and low-income families. Many families come from Southeast Asia, Africa and Latin America. For many families, they will be experiencing their first holiday season in the United States. The Toy Giveaway event is expected to provide gifts to approximately 200 to 300 children via the refugee support programs at House of Prayer Lutheran Church. The Toy Drive is made possible through citywide fundraising and collection effort in partnership with civic organizations, businesses, and support from staff and faculty members from the University of the Incarnate Word. The committee asks for community support for the fundraiser and will be hosting a social distance distribution later in December before the Christmas break.
When: Tuesday, December 1 to December 16, 2020. Details for toy giveaway event will be announced at a later date.

The Bring Joy to a Refugee Child in SA Toy Drive committee originated as a college project by students involved in local civic organizations. In its eighth year, the project continues to be led by organizer Carlos de Leon in partnership with community organizations such as
Earn-A-Bike, Santa’s Cruisers – Mystic Knights Car Club, Carnalismo Brown Berets of San Antonio and volunteers from throughout the city of San Antonio. This Toy Drive was created primarily for refugee families who are recent immigrants and resettling to San Antonio. The annual Toy Drive has grown to provide gifts to low-income families in the surrounding community and is open to the public. All previous years combined; the yearly drive has gifted toys to over 2,000 families. This year the Toy Drive received support from KGBTexas as part of the agency’s community service initiative.
