San Antonio, Texas – Community and families will gather to bring awareness to a Human Rights Crisis at the Bexar County Adult Detention Center. We believe all public institutions—including Jails—can benefit from good oversight and meaningful accountability. Effective oversight can prevent problems even deaths.
We are starting a campaign to facilitate a conversation about issues related to oversight and identify mechanisms that can address Human Rights Abuses and safety challenges at this facility. We demand focuses on developing and supporting balanced, fair and humane treatment and corrections policies to reduce the rising death toll; to transform the in-custody experience into one that can improve the lives of those incarcerated so that they return home safely to support their families and communities; and to ensure that the Bexar County jail is safe for those incarcerated and as well as those who work there.
