Chris Perez is a name synonymous with Tejano, especially for gente aqui en Tejas. Thus, it is more than fitting for the Tejano icon to launch his new record label BlueMariachi Productions with ZEUS. El Mero Necio as his first signed artist. From Los Dinos, to the Kumbia Kings, to his very own Chris Perez Band, la musica de la gente is in great hands.
“If he hadn’t come along, I probably wouldn’t be taking this step with anyone else….it’s like we’re just an extended family working together, and I think that’s the best way to do it,” Perez describes his professional relationship with ZEUS.
ZEUS, whose ideas had previously been deemed “too crazy” by others, was unwilling to change who he was just to appease those individuals. However, the Legendary guitarist Perez, whose background comes from all genres of music, readily accepted ZEUS and his boundless creativity. Together, they have created something new, innovative and unique.
“This has been a great road, it’s been really sincere, and I’m excited about what we’re going to do…we’re gonna bring back Tejano in a very special way,” ZEUS states.
“Tejano to me is many things. I’m Tejano. Right? I was part of Selena y Los Dinos, the Kumbia Kings, and different other bands, but for me being Tejano is like, you can do the rock, you can do the rap, you can do the hip hop, you can do the ballads, you can do…the rancheras. And I think that’s the beautiful thing, for me, that ZEUS is all of those things. He doesn’t have to be pigeonholed. And I’m a big supporter of that and I’ll champion that any day,” explains Perez.
We do not have to fit into a box to achieve great things, gente. Break down the barriers. Go Beyond. We look forward to what Perez, ZEUS. El Mero Necio, and BlueMariachi Productions have in store for all of us.
