San Antonio, TX, May 19th, 2020 – Mexican-American singer, songwriter, filmmaker, actress and San Antonio native, Patricia Vonne Rodriguez, will co-host and perform live this Friday, May 22nd with mural artist David Blancas on his virtual program – Live with David Blancas. Patricia will be performing her unique style of Tex-Mex Renaissance music while honoring the life and legacy of Randy Garibay, who is one of the many notable musicians painted on the La Musica de San Anto Mural.
Patricia Vonne Rodriguez has a loyal following in the city of San Antonio, the state of Texas, and Europe. Her newly-minted, Tejana-supergroup, Texicana Mamas, includes band members, Tish Hinojosa and Stephanie Urbina Jones, who are working on releasing their debut album coming soon; all three women originally from San Antonio with Westside community roots.
“As a Texicana Mama my greatest hope is to share the love of music from my heart and heritage. I am honored to be a mama coming together to celebrate and honor who we are and where we came from through our stories in song. I pray our music inspires joy, pride, compassion, passion and of course, many gritos and dancing in the kitchen.” says band member Stephanie Urbina Jones.
The Texicana Mamas’ debut album is a cultural menudo of bilingual sounds and flavors that celebrates the South Texas, Mexican-America heritage including songs such as, “Viva La Patria”, “Esperanza”, “Canción del Mariachi” and “The Life,” which were all recorded in Nashville last September.
Episodes are filmed from Blanca’s studio and the programming includes a virtual tour of the commemorative La Musica de San Anto Mural which not only represents music legends of San Antonio but is also the gateway to the city’s West Side at 1300 W. Commerce. The mural helps encompass both San Antonio’s cultural significance and history. Programming includes Q & A segments, “paint along” classes among other engaging activities for the whole family.
Westside Development Corporation (WDC) is helping San Antonians stay engaged by partnering with local artist, David Blancas, who will be hosting live bi-monthly virtual episodes.
While staying safe at home, WDC is providing the community with San Antonio culture content.
“We are in a very difficult time, but we want to connect with our community, reminding them to stay healthy, physically and mentally. Sharing art, through mural tours, through live examples and by asking everyone to participate will bring a new dynamic to his art during this unprecedented time. This campaign is being initiated as a fundraising effort to continue support for the community arts.” says Interim President and CEO of the Westside Development Corporation, Ramiro Gonzales.
