WHAT:  An announcement and celebration of a major gift from local philanthropist Harvey E. Najim to AlamoPROMISE, the Alamo Colleges District’s program to provide last-dollar funding to pay tuition and mandatory fees at any of the district’s five college for seniors graduating in 2020 from 25 participating high schools.

Smith

WHY: Generous donors such as Mr. Najim, who care about improving the lives of local residents and the community, are vital to making AlamoPROMISE a reality. The Alamo Colleges District and its partners in AlamoPROMISE are committed to ending poverty, enhancing economic and social mobility and meeting workforce demands in our area by making it possible for more students to complete college prepared for high-wage, high-demand jobs. Already 8,000 eligible high school seniors have completed the first step to becoming AlamoPROMISE Scholars. By the fall of 2021, the AlamoPROMISE program will be available to students graduating with a diploma from an additional 20 participating public high schools in Bexar County.

 

Interviews and photo opportunities: Mr. Najim will present the Alamo Colleges Foundation with a giant “check” at the event’ and he and other speakers will be available for interviews and photo ops immediately after the event; some may also be available before it begins if you cannot be there for the entire event. Interviews will be available in English and Spanish.
