ASM Global announced this month that Blizzard Entertainment’s (World of WarCraft®, Diablo®, StarCraft®) Overwatch League will host its first live and in-person event with fans on May 6 at Tech Port Arena (3331 General Hudnell Drive, San Antonio, TX 78226).

One of the most prolific Overwatch League rivalries is back, as Tech Port Arena will see the Houston Outlaws battle against the Dallas Fuel.

The fierce rivals will kick-off Season 5 of the Overwatch League (OWL), with both teams playing together on-stage in front of live fans. The event will also be the first public event debuting the long awaited release of Overwatch® 2 (which is presently limited to Pro Players).

Tickets go on sale today at 11 am CT at Outlaws.gg/tickets with early bird pricing starting at $29.99. The match will also stream live on the official Overwatch League YouTube channel.

In addition to the heat on the competitive stage between the two teams, fans in attendance will participate in a meet and greet with the Houston Outlaws players on-stage after the match (questions only; no photos or autographs), as well as experience fun sponsored activations, and food and merchandise to keep them engaged and hyped leading up to the marquee match.

Touted as the most technologically innovative esports venue in the country, managed by ASM Global, the Tech Port Arena serves as the perfect beacon for the new era of live esports. As part of the massive 130,000 square-foot Tech Port Center + Arena property, the venue is outfitted with state-of-the-art technology and has a capacity of 3,300 guests.

“The Battle for Texas is one of the first events to open our new venue with one of the greatest rivalries in esports. It is the perfect launch to establish San Antonio as the next great destination for esports fans and gamers,” said Eric Blockie, General Manager for Tech Port Center + Arena. “We will welcome all fans with open arms and ensure everyone will have a memorable experience.”

The Overwatch League event will be the second publicly ticketed event to be held in the new facility (The Smashing Pumpkins open on May 2nd), and promises to excite fans of all ages.

Both teams expressed their excitement about renewing their rivalry at Tech Port Arena.

“Playing our first match of the season at a place as state of the art as the Tech Port Arena against an opponent like the Dallas Fuel honestly is the rallying cry of a newly invigorated generation of esports,” said Lori Burgess, COO of Beasley Esports, which owns the Houston Outlaws.
“Dallas and Houston have the best rivalry in the Overwatch League, and this is a great way to start the season,” said Mike Rufail, Founder of Envy Gaming, who owns the Dallas Fuel. “We look forward to seeing the Dallas Fuel fans join our players as we come to San Antonio.”
