The first and only Hispanic NCAA Division I head football coach, Barry Alvarez is no stranger to the game. A three-year letterman at Nebraska, he also held assistant coaching positions with Iowa and Notre Dame. Handed the reins of a crumbling program, with attendance at its lowest in history, Alvarez was named head coach at the University of Wisconsin. Overseeing one of the greatest college football rebuilding programs in NCAA history, Alvarez has generated the most wins, fan support and TV exposure in Badger history. With a Big Ten Co-championship and Rose Bowl and Hall of Fame Bowl wins, Alvarez was named the National Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association.
