KLRN, in collaboration with CPS Energy, Itron, Inc., and the Smart Energy Education initiative, will host a S.E.E. Your Future Career Day, Saturday, May 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Texas A&M University-San Antonio.
This free event will feature community resources and hands-on activities relating to careers in Smart Energy Education (S.E.E.) and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). There will also be a special visit by PBS KIDS character Sid the Science Kid.
“We hope to show students and families what a career in the STEM field can look like,” said Melissa Galvan, Vice President of Education for KLRN. “There are many options for a career in water and energy – including trades and apprenticeship programs.”
In addition to preparing students for future careers, the S.E.E. Your Way Career Day hopes to increase awareness about the energy-water nexus and provide education about how our community uses and can conserve these resources. As San Antonio’s water and energy utilities are publicly owned, local students can play a role in making decisions now and pursue career paths in energy, water and STEM, to create a more sustainable future.
“The way we manage our energy and water resources will define the century,” said Juan Garcia, President of Disco Learning Media, a subsidiary of Upstryve Inc.– the S.E.E. program manager. “This is why it’s important to teach the next generation about conservation, sustainability, and career opportunities in the utility industry – including trade careers. Today’s students will help us solve tomorrow’s challenges and help create a more resourceful world. They are the future of energy.”
The S.E.E. Your Future Career Day takes place Saturday, May 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Texas A&M University (1 University Way, San Antonio, TX 78224). Free parking is available.
