Luis Roberto Vera, Sr. passed onto eternal rest at 1:58 pm on Sunday October 27, 2019, in peace and at home with his family. Born on October 11, 1927 in Weslaco, TX and raised in Mercedes, TX. Luis Vera was the son of Mexican immigrants Apolonio Jose and Secundina Vera. Mr. Vera served proudly in the US Army and the Air Force reserves. Luis Vera is survived by his wife of 71 years, Basilia Guz- man of Pocitlan, Mexico. He is the proud father of 6 children, Apolonio (Polo), Luis, Jr., Le- ticia, Nereida (Nere), Sergio, and Corina. Mr. Vera is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren and great- great grandchildren. Luis Vera worked for over 20 years at both Kelly A.F.B. and the old Piggly Wiggly grocery store on Pleas- anton Rd. Thereafter, Mr. Vera owned and continued to work in the grocery business with Super Sav grocery store on No- galitos Street and Vera’s Meat Market located on Commercial Ave. here in San Antonio.

Mr. Vera was a patriot of this great country and a true believer in the United States Armed Ser- vices and the true meaning of the American flag. After his death, discovered in his wallet were found both his selective service card and his United States Armed Forces ID, that he carried with him for the past 70 years. Luis Roberto Vera, Sr. fought against Alzheimer’s for the past 10 years. Therefore in lieu of flowers the fam- ily request that a donation be given to Alzheimer’s research.
