Eighteen-year-old David Martinez is a nonverbal Southsider, who for the last 5 years has been fighting a challenging bone infection called Osteomyelitis.
Every year for his birthday, his family would arrange for him to get the things he desired most; a limo ride, a chance to safely ride a horse and the opportunity to watch his favorite football team, the Harlandale Indians.
But each year, tragedy would strike right before or on his birthday, ripping away his dreams. Despite that, David stayed strong. He kept fighting. The doctors told him and his family that the antibiotics weren’t working. Nevertheless, they persisted.
This month, a miracle occurred. David was finally able to beat the infection! La Prensa Texas wanted to celebrate him by giving him everything he’s ever wanted.
Last Wednesday, at Harlandale High School, La Prensa Texas and our community network surprised David with a mini miracle. With the help of Tradelink Powered by ITEX, he got picked up in a luxury limo. He was escorted to Harlandale High School by a cadre of classic cars provided by Mister On Da Blvd.
Once he arrived, there were even more surprises in store for him. With the help of Harlandale ISD, David was greeted by the band, cheerleaders and his favorite football team. That’s not all; thanks to Jaime’s Ranch for Special Kids, David and his family were surprised with passes for a family outing where David can finally ride a horse.
David received a football signed by all the players as well as gifts from the volleyball team and cheerleading squad. David was then treated to a VIP car show and dinner.
La Prensa Texas loved making one young man’s day. Please join us to help make more miracles happen for our community members. Contact digitalteam@laprensatexas.com to get involved.
