Starting November 1 2024, Texas hospitals must ask patients about their immigration status. This comes after an executive order from Gov. Greg Abbott. The governor claimed the order is intended to allow the state to review the costs connected with providing medical services to undocumented immigrants. Does this seem reasonable to you? Let’s talk about it…
Alyssa Patsakos: “As a nurse, I care for ALL people. Regardless of citizenship. I am not a politician, and frankly, it’s none of my business what someone’s immigration status is. Some people have lost their humanity. This will only deter people from getting the care they need due to fear. I will continue to care for people, without prejudice.”
Shyrill Grays: “Can he sign an executive order for the power grid to work better in Texas? We had people die in Texas because of no electricity; with all this technology we have.”
Vanessa Figueroa: “If this information is added to a patient’s health records, that information should be protected by the federal HIPAA laws. But of course, Texas wants that power to override a federal law.”
Tobey Jorré: “Can we do the same for education too?”
John B. Good: “That’s a good thing. Nothing wrong with that.”
Clay Matcek: “This is why our health care bills will skyrocket next year as well as insurance premiums. You should all thank a Democrat for this. All they do is fund their billionaire buddies with our hard earned money!!!!!”
Dana Pelata: “When’s he gonna do something about the power grid?”
Richard Pillsbury: “You’re missing the point. There had to be a way to account for billing, and the governor is about to smack the fed with a bill to recover funds. Unpaid bills is a huge problem as it is but this will put the ownership on the government for adding unnecessarily to the problem, which in turn will cause higher health bills. Nobody is saying refuse treatment, they are calling for a bonafide way to recover funds. Open your eyes and stop saying republican or democrat and realize that the fed let them in and the fed should pay. When they have to start diverting money from their pet projects like solar, Ukraine, etc… they will understand just like most of us already do. Slow down with all the hippa crap and use your common sense please.”
Edgardo Luis Perez: “Good as they should otherwise we are gonna pay their bills. If you come to the USA come legally and pay taxes and everything as every legal person does.”
Mel Dea: “They don’t ask when they pay their taxes.. but if they need help forget about it.”
Jeannine McWhorter: “Fair enough! We have a right to know where the money is going , how much of it is going towards health care and how that’s affecting legal US residents. This isn’t stopping anything as far as healthcare or them from being afraid to seek it whatsoever! Just helping to document the facts.”
Washing Dee: “Some of us work at a hospital and will not do this. It will make people afraid to get care because they will think someone will pop out to get them. That is what will be next. Gov Hot wheels needs to have his feet held to the fire but just like his heart, he won’t feel anything. Republicans don’t want anyone, not even their own, and especially everyone else to have anything. One day, more folks will wake up.”
Ray Hernandez: “Amen…finally! Also for those slow people the governor just wants to know who is illegal he is not saying that they are not being treated. We must know how much our tax dollars are being used to cover the cost of non-citizens. It’s that simple!”
Tina Bobina: “Well…after that…why not ask them who their employers are? And then send their employers their hospital bill. See? So easy. BUT, they won’t do that. Because corporate millionaires and billionaires like to exploit immigrants for cheap labor. And then like to complain about all the immigrants.”
James Garrott “Good going Abbott! My taxes shouldn’t have to pay the hospital bill of these illegal WB border jumpers!”
Lori Rogers: “They’ll still be treated and many applications and such ask if you’re a US citizen. If hospitals can’t ask this question then let’s do away with the Census also.”
Debra Sheppard; “I’VE BEEN ANSWERING THIS QUESTION FOR YEARS ON JOB APPLICATIONS AND EVERYWHERE ELSE..AND NEVER HAD AN ISSUE!”
Andres Huerta: “Good. Illegals shouldn’t have the right to free healthcare services when we’ve got homeless American men, women, children and Veterans who need it more. Our citizens should come first.”
Cj Carter: “YES I APPROVE THIS MESSAGE!”
Phil Haddad: “Just another scare tactic.. anyone can refuse to answer the question with zero penalty.. the immigrant communities need to be advised of their rights to simply decline to answer…”
Frank Guzman: “Send them back to where they came from so they can get treated in their country instead of us citizens having to pay for it.”
Randy Race: “If here illegally, send the bill to Washington DC. They are breaking federal law.”
Leonard N. Chan: “This is going to cause people that need life or death care from seeking aid. Whatever happens to all lives matter?”
Jodie Perman-Miller: “Enraging. If you work in healthcare you DGAF if someone is here legally or not, you don’t care about their skin color, you don’t care if they can’t speak English, you don’t care what gender they are, you don’t care about what their sexual orientation is and if you do why are you practicing medicine??? We are living in a state where we let women die over a medical term. Texas republicans don’t care about people, they care about power. Just yesterday a young mother died because she couldn’t get the appropriate medical care.”
