Texans Keep Dying, Trump and Abbott Keep Lying
Texans Experience Another Day with Over 170 Deaths, 960 Deaths Over the Past Week, the Worst Stretch Since the Pandemic Began
No, It Has Not Gotten Better
Austin, TX — Today, the state of Texas reported another 173 deaths and 9,507 confirmed cases of the coronavirus. This total means that nearly 1,000 Texans have died this week, the worst stretch since the pandemic began. To put it in perspective, there were 960 deaths this week, a staggering increase from the 752 coronavirus deaths in Texas that occurred in all of June.
Today, Donald Trump said he thought testing was “overrated” while the United States passed 4,000,000 coronavirus cases, the most by far of any country in the world.
On the state level, Greg Abbott continues to wait on the sidelines and hang out with billionaire Elon Musk, rather than doing his job and give local leaders the tools they need to combat the coronavirus crisis in their communities.
As other countries begin to open back up and get back to normal, America remains largely shut down and Texas is one of the biggest coronavirus hotspots in the world. This is directly due to the failures of Trump and Abbott at the federal and state level.
Trump and Abbott mismanaged this crisis. Their failures have been Texas’ loss.
Texas Democratic Party Communications Director Abhi Rahman issued the following statement:
“Things in Texas aren’t getting better. Texas just hit record highs for deaths and hospitalizations yesterday and have had the deadliest week since the coronavirus crisis began. Meanwhile, Trump still doesn’t understand the importance of testing and Abbott is too busy sucking up to a billionaire to help local and county leaders on the frontlines. As America passes four million cases today, it’s time more than ever for new leadership. Texans know competent leaders when they see them. Texans will vote Trump out in November.”
