The first and only Hispanic four-star general in the U.S Army, Richard E. Cavazos was born in Kingsville, Texas in 1929. He graduated with a B.S. in geology from Texas Tech University and was commissioned a second lieutenant through the ROTC program in 1951. He commanded the 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment in Vietnam in 1967. Between 1982 and 1984, he served as a commander for the United Armed Forces Command at Fort McPherson, Ga. He is one of the highest ranking Hispanic military leaders.
