Working a summer job as a window displayer in New York, Luis Estevez made his break into the fashion industry when his work impressed the president of Lord & Taylor so much that Estevez was invited to study at the Traphagen School of Fashion. Accepting, Estevez left for Paris in 1953. Two years later, at age 24, he introduced his first collection, Granelle/ Estevez, and became the youngest designer to win the Coty Fashion Award. Christened “The one-year wonder,” by Life magazine, he has stood the test of time. He has designed for such personalities as Lana Turner, Natalie Wood and Betty Ford. Forty years and countless fashion awards later, Estevez’s collections only can be found in the finest specialty stores in the world.
