Gerardo “Ghost” Cazares was born and raised in San Antonio, TX. He served in the US army for eight years during which he served two tours as a combat engineer. After the end of his service, he learned to paint to help cope with the stress of reintegration into the civilian lifestyle and has been expressing himself through art for quite some time now. Ghost draws inspiration from religious imagery, heavy metal and his military service. He currently works as a heavy equipment mechanic and aspires to be a full-time artist.
You can view his work at Beyond Service: An Exhibition of Artworks by Veterans at Bihl Haus Arts on Fredericksburg Road. The artworks in this exhibition, organized by Wounded Warrior and participating artist Mario Lopez, have been created by Veterans who have served in various branches of the military during the Vietnam War and operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
These Veteran artists have been recognized with valor and meritorious awards including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and numerous service ribbons. Featured artists include Guy Banta, MD, Gerardo ‘Ghost’ Casares, Brandi Hartigan, Katherine Hopkins, Paul Kahl Jr., George Lamson, Natalie Lopez, Roger Price, Lionel Sosa, Cody Vance, Roy Villarreal & Michael Wright.
